Creating a high resolution icon that is trying to be readable, look good, represent what it should and do all of it in any scaling level, can make iteration really difficult, as by changing a pixel in the image can introduce problems in completely unknown zoom levels. The best part is that the mipmaps were not really extra work, they were actually a lifesaver. Once I would consider the highest resolution good enough, I could just downscale each of the resolutions manually in Photoshop and paint the extra necessary edits they would require. This is huge because it means I could create the highest resolution image first and immediately put it in the game, and see if conceptually the icon is working. And automatically puts the mipmap into the game, assuming the file names are correct. Since we were very well aware of the amount of work that the icons would require, we tried to set up an efficient workflow first, and it paid off big time.Ī rather simple Blender startup scene to standardize output paths and basic starting settings was a good start, but the part that saved my sanity was a python script which automatically creates mipmaps from given input images, and downscales images from nearest available higher resolution if an input is missing. I did not work on the new icons non-stop for a year as there were other more pressing tasks to be done sometimes, but they still took a large amount of time to make.Īs Albert mentioned earlier, we also wanted to create multiple mipmaps per icon to control scaling better than letting the engine rescale icons by crazy amounts, but it could multiply the amount of required images to astronomic numbers. New high resolution icons for all game items (visible both in GUI and in the world)Ī bit more than a year ago Albert had posted twice ( FFF-290 and FFF-291) about our thoughts, experiments, and plans of creating high resolution icons.įactorio has a ridiculous amount of items and things that need icons, which by itself means it’s a lot of work to redo them.
#Factorio update update#
The update you will see next week includes: While the state of the GUI is not close to our crazy plans we recently had for the GUI, it's above what we initially planned 4 years ago. If all goes well, next week the game will get the last big GUI update for 1.0. I caught it (during third pass  ) launched a check/repair instead et voila : all set with a ~250MB download. It's been over 4 years since we planned the infamous GUI update.
#Factorio update upgrade#
Nevertheless, I confirm that I had a gog-0.17 installed, auto-updated (ie in-game) to 0.18, and Galaxy 2 tried to upgrade to 1.0 but that failed after donwloading ~1GB. I haven't had particular issues, however I wasn't discovering the "factorio account on wube's website" stuff - which I have forgotten _all_ about since ^^' Some slight variations might occur in Galaxy 2. If I were to take a guess, I'd venture that maybe you had auto-update in the game, but not "experimental updates" in Galaxy? Anyhoo, since 1.0 has been released, there's gonna be a bit of time before the next experimental release (maybe!)Īlso, I'd like to clarify: the steps above applied to the first version of GOG Galaxy. I'm not absolutely sure I understand what your situation was. I guess I disable auto update in gog then. GOG Galaxy always resets the version to the version of the store. I guess I disable auto update in gog then.Ĭonscienc3: Hmm right now that does not work for me. PS: this should get a sticky ^^ Hmm right now that does not work for me. achievements, if they are some day added to the game in Galaxy. The "check/repair" step will just allow Galaxy to verify that your files are already in line with the new version and it'll settle to leave everything as is, just checking another box under "currently installed version" -)Īlternatively, you can also prevent Galaxy from trying to upgrade the game at all, but you might not get some new stuff along the road, like e.g. Otherwise Galaxy will try to upgrade your game, realize it's not installed as it's supposed to (since you upgraded earlier from within the game), then complain and fail to "upgrade" and, quite possibly, not even allow you to launch it.

Gourgouilloult: If I may add a 7: once the latest version you've upgraded to through the game itself hits GOG, just run a "check / repair" from the game page in Galaxy.
